For just over two months I have been a dad now. It is hard to believe considering there was a time when I wasn't sure if it would ever happen. It has been the most amazing two months of my life. Not that the previous years of my life haven't been great also, but having Jackson has made life so much different and better. He is absolutely amazing.
Not long after he was born I posted some things I had learned. It quickly became one of my most liked posts on Facebook. I haven't posted anymore in a while, but I assure you I have continued to learn. Here are some of the lessons learned through 2 months of fatherhood.
Not long after he was born I posted some things I had learned. It quickly became one of my most liked posts on Facebook. I haven't posted anymore in a while, but I assure you I have continued to learn. Here are some of the lessons learned through 2 months of fatherhood.
- I don't really need as much sleep as I thought I did.
- Little aliens come in during the night and steal formula.
- I have seen some cute babies before, but never one as cute as Jackson
- There are few things better than laying on the couch at 6 AM with Jackson sleeping on my chest.
- You really shouldn't Google a babies symptoms.
- Changing diapers seriously should be an Olympic sport. Pretty sure I could get the gold.
- Jackson does not like to be still. I have ran the kitchen table 500 multiple times while singing "You Are My Sunshine" and every other song I can come up with.
- He likes to play games already. He will open one eye and look at you until he sees you look back. Then he closes it. Sometimes he smiles after doing it. He's a stinker!
- He loves coffee. [Disclaimer: I do not seriously give my 2 month old coffee. Whatever I am eating, drinking, or thinking of at the time is what I refer to his bottle as. "Here son, have some coffee" sounds much more appetizing than, "Here son, have a bottle of water with some nasty smelling powdery stuff mixed in."]
- Those 3 days and nights when I was sick and had to live and sleep in my recliner so I wouldn't get Kaycee and Jackson sick (Guess who ended up sicker than I was) were awful. Hearing him cry and knowing I can't do much to help was a really bad feeling. Thankfully, I had a mask to wear so I could still help a little.
- People told us numerous times how fast time flies with a baby. I was sure they were correct, but didn't realize just how fast time does fly. He will be 10 weeks old tomorrow. Wow.
- There has hardly been a minute in a day that goes by that I don't think about him. Of course, every time I think about him, I also think about his superhero of a mom.
- I have learned to do a lot of things one handed.
- Blowouts are no fun.
- People are funny. I was carrying him around Target one day and a group of middle school girls walked by. Pretty sure if he had not been asleep, he could have gotten every one of their numbers. They did a perfectly harmonized "awwwwwwww" as they walked by.
- I am thankful for every minute I get with him.
- I'm not sure I have ever prayed for anyone as much as I pray for him.
- He tries to mimic some of my funny sounds. It mostly is him sticking his tongue out at me, but it's pretty awesome.
- Play time is a lot of fun already.
- I learn more every day just how blessed Jackson and I are to have a super hero in the house with us. Every baby needs a super hero mom. Thank you Kaycee for being our super hero!
